Mari is an experimental video, performance, and installation artist currently living in Denver and pursuing a BFA at Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design, and operating as this year’s 40West District Artist in Residence.
Mari’s work alludes to transcendent emotional experiences by presenting harmonious relationships between the hard and soft, pleasure and pain, beautiful and grotesque, masculine and feminine, in carefully presented internal and external spaces. She confronts strong systems of duality in a sensitive and poignant way. Mari’s work also extends to the metaphysical experience of time with nostalgic underpinnings through the use of nonlinear personal narrative, time-based media, and the blending of digital and analog technologies.
Mari is currently playing with box TVs and pushing the boundaries of the moving image to create a dialogue about the supremacy of the screen in society. She hopes to continue exploring the cross-over between analog technology and its possibilities in the fine art realm. Her newest work embraces CRTs as art objects, exploring their place as refuse in society and highlighting how outdated technology can serve as artifacts in an ever-changing technologically driven society.
